The awards will be presented on Saturday. Films from Germany could also be awarded. Which ones are they?

At the conclusion of the 76th International Film Festival of The prizes will be awarded in Locarno, Switzerland, on Saturday. German cinema has a chance of being honored. In the main competition for the Golden Leopard, the feature film “Stepne” (“Steppe”), which was also realized by German producers, such as Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), in a joint production of sponsors from four countries, is considered a favourite. The social study by the Ukrainian director Maryna Vroda was enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike.

The drama “Touched” by German director Claudia Rorarius has a chance of winning an award in the young talent competition. The mostly quiet, but also provocative love story between a nurse and a paraplegic with explicit sex scenes is one of the most impressive of the 214 feature, documentary, short and experimental films shown in various sections and competitions at the twelve-day festival.

However, the competition is strong. The juries have a hard time. The social painting “Animal” by the Greek author and director Sofia Exarchou and the anti-colonial drama “Sweet Dreams” by the Bosnian director Ena Sendijarevic, who lives in Amsterdam, are also highly rated in the main competition.

The awards will be presented on Saturday evening at a gala under the starry sky.
