Over the weekend in Toronto, several artists were honored for their work. Including Vicky Krieps. The Luxembourger would especially like to thank the audience.

The Luxembourgish actress Vicky Krieps has been honored with an award at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The 39-year-old (“Corsage”) received the Tribute Award “for her outstanding work” at a gala event in Toronto on Sunday evening (local time), as TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said at the award ceremony. “Her dedication to her craft and her ability to embody diverse roles with profound authenticity make her a true force in the field of cinema,” Bailey said.

Krieps thanked the audience and the TIFF in a speech: “Thank you! Because this award means that you are watching my films. And that is the most important thing. I make many films that are independent and often not easy to realize. And that these It’s thanks to you and the film festivals that films are seen.”

The actress can be seen at TIFF in Viggo Mortensen’s directorial work “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” which celebrated its world premiere on Friday. In the Western, Mortensen and Krieps play immigrants trying to build a new life in a corrupt Nevada town in the 1860s.

Colman Domingo was also honored

In addition to Krieps, the US actor Colman Domingo (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”) received the award. The directors Pedro Almodóvar and Spike Lee, as well as the actors Andy Lau and Patricia Arquette were honored with further awards.

Arquette premiered her directorial debut, “Gonzo Girl,” at TIFF. She admitted in her acceptance speech that the transition from acting to directing a low-budget film wasn’t easy. “But if there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I have a hell of a work ethic,” Arquette said. “Give me the job and I’ll do it as well as I can.”

At the 48th Toronto International Film Festival, over 240 international film productions will be shown over ten days. The TIFF winning film, traditionally chosen by the audience in Toronto, will be announced on September 17th.
