31 years of band history, 20 final concerts, the finale in Hamburg: Fettes Brot ended their music career on the trotting track in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld on Saturday. Around 25,000 people attended. A goodbye.
King Boris, Dokter Renz and Björn Beton stand in front of a barge, harbor cranes and containers – a maritime scenery. They wear shirts, loose pants, sneakers. Casual guys who invited to the barbecue party – you might think. Only without grills, instead there are beats and basses. “Make a starry sky, everyone,” they call into their microphones. Thousands of people hold up their smartphones, lights are on. The three rappers look at the glowing carpet spread out in front of them, say nothing for several seconds, just look at the crowd. “Great! Nobody has to burn their fingers like they used to,” says one of the hip-hop trio. A beat starts, cheers from the audience. Then the three rap into the microphone: “I need an echo, echo, an echo. Give me an echo, echo, an echo.” The audience raps along, seesaws and dances.
Fettes Brot in Hamburg: 25,000 people in the audience
It’s September 2nd, Fettes Brot are giving a concert in front of about 25,000 people. It should be the last of their band history, the last of the two so-called “Brotstock concerts”. The night before, Fettes Brot were already on the same stage. Even then, 25,000 people celebrated with them. They all want to say goodbye.
