Around 50 to 100 people celebrate a rave party in an old fortification complex in Cologne – with life-threateningly high carbon monoxide levels. A number of partygoers require medical treatment.

After a rave party in an old fortification in At least 18 people were hospitalized in Cologne with carbon monoxide poisoning. As the fire department announced, a participant in the illegal event called emergency services that night because her friend had collapsed.

As soon as they entered the Fort “This measurement means an imminent danger to the life of anyone who is in the relevant area,” warned the Cologne fire department.

Around 50 to 100 people were celebrating in the premises at the time. The emergency services arranged for the immediate evacuation and called in additional reinforcements from the fire and rescue services. All of the revelers were examined by a doctor, and several complained of headaches, malaise and dizziness. Carbon monoxide measurements revealed “relevant” carbon monoxide poisoning in 18 people; one affected person required special treatment in a pressure chamber.

It was assumed that some celebrants had fled to the surrounding area when the public order office and police arrived and might need treatment. A search began with foot troops and a drone with a thermal imaging camera, but the emergency services found no other affected people.

According to the information, untreated carbon monoxide poisoning can lead to permanent brain and nerve damage and can cause short-term seizures or impaired consciousness. 60 emergency services and 21 vehicles were deployed during the night-time operation.
