Feldkirchen – two bicycle roads – district of Munich

The municipality of Feldkirchen wants to increase the proportion of bicycle traffic in the village from 33 percent in 2021 to 40 percent in 2030. This should succeed with the help of a cycle traffic concept that was developed by the planning office Stadt Land Verkehr and that provides numerous measures to improve the situation for cyclists. The concept is the first concrete result of the provisional membership of the municipality in the working group for bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria, which Feldkirchen joined almost a year ago. It was presented at the recent City Council meeting.

Among other things, a new cycle path is to be created along the M 1 district road between Hohenlindner Straße and the alternative parking lot at the exhibition center. More central islands are to make crossing the roadway safer, and Fasanweg and Seestrasse are to be turned into bicycle lanes.

As Andreas Bergmann from the planning office explained, the aim is to reduce competition between the various road users. According to the expert, removing the separation between footpaths and cycle paths can help here: so far in Feldkirchen, red and gray paving has been used to clearly demarcate which area is intended for cyclists and which for pedestrians. If the paving is designed uniformly, according to Bergmann, the entire width can be used by everyone and mutual consideration is increased. The planner also advocates lifting the obligation to use cycle paths. According to him, this should enable faster cyclists to switch to the lane.

Bergmann has not yet been able to give any details about the costs and time frame of the measures. First of all, the municipal council must prioritize the measures in order to be able to start the detailed planning.
