Feldkirchen – municipal council abolishes committees – district of Munich

The committees of the Feldkirchner municipal council are now being dissolved. After an SPD motion did not find a majority in the committee as recently as last June, the local politicians have since changed their minds and decided at their most recent meeting to abolish the committees. Under the former mayor Werner van der Weck (SPD), there were no committees in the last electoral term, the new mayor Andreas Janson (Independent Voters’ Association, UWV) introduced them after the 2020 local elections.

When deliberating on the SPD application, there was a heated discussion last summer, in which representatives of the UWV and the Greens in particular spoke out in favor of maintaining the committees and were able to push through their position with a narrow majority. In the past few months, according to Mayor Janson, the municipal administration has observed the meetings and found that the meetings of the main, finance and social committees are often canceled, while meetings of the building and environmental committees are overloaded. So, together with the parliamentary groups, they came to an agreement that the committees no longer made sense.

“I was already at the SPD’s request for abolition, it’s a pity that we couldn’t decide that at the time,” said Stefan Seiffert (CSU). Christian Wilhelm (SPD) also referred to the advice given at the time: “I don’t want to repeat all the arguments. Let’s abolish the committees, if it doesn’t work, we can always change it.”
