Fees on Polygon surge 1,000% to $0.10 amid Ordinals-inspired Mint token craze

Gas fees on Polygon Ethereum Layer 2 rose more than 1,000% to peak at $0.10 as users flocked to mint the Ordinals-inspired token dubbed POLS.

In a November 16 X (formerly Twitter) post, Polygon founder Sandeep Nailwal shared his surprise at the increase in transactions on the network, saying that the spike could be due to the launch of the New Polygon-based nonfungible token (NFT) collection

The reason for this is the increase in network activity and the sudden increase in fees. This appears to be largely due to interest in creating new POLS tokens.

More than $86 million in MATIC has been used as gas

The POLS token is built on a protocol called PRC-20, which works similarly to the BRC-20 token from Bitcoin Ordinals.

Currently, fees have returned to normal levels. It is approximately 882 gwei, with 1 gwei equal to approximately 0.000000001 MATIC.
