Federal Statistical Office – Records for producer prices – Economy

The price increase in Germany is getting stronger. In November, producer prices rose by 19.2 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This is the clearest increase since 1951. Analysts had feared an even stronger increase of 20 percent. Compared to the previous month, the prices that manufacturers receive for their goods rose by 0.8 percent. According to statisticians, the main reason for this is still the rise in energy prices. In November they were almost 50 percent higher than a year earlier. Natural gas rose in price by a good 83 percent, electricity by 48 percent. There were also high price increases for intermediate goods such as metals and wood. The increases are the result of increasing demand with in some cases severely limited supply, at the same time there are supply chain problems.
