Federal Statistical Office – Beer exports are declining – Economy

The consequences of the corona pandemic and the energy crisis are weighing on German brewers. Exports to non-EU countries fell by twelve percent in 2022 to 715.9 million liters compared to the previous year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office. Nevertheless, this was two-thirds more than ten years earlier. By contrast, sales of beer from German breweries to EU countries fell by more than a quarter from 2012 to 2022, to around 805 million liters. Taxed beer sales in Germany also fell by eleven percent in these ten years. However, with a good 7.2 billion liters, this accounted for the lion’s share (83 percent) of all beer sales.
