Status: 25.09.2021 11:52 a.m.

According to plans by the Ministry of Transport, drivers must have two protective masks with them in their cars in the future. It is intended to implement the requirement with the next change in the road traffic licensing regulations.

Carrying protective masks in the car should become mandatory in the future. This was confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Transport at the request of the dpa news agency. The “Rheinische Post” had previously reported on the plans. Accordingly, even after the corona pandemic, vehicle drivers must always have two mouth and nose covers with them in the car.

It is planned that the masks will be added to the prescribed contents of the first-aid kit in cars, trucks and buses in the future. According to the ministry, this was suggested by the Federal Medical Technology Association. The Ministry of Transport wrote that it is intended to implement the requirement with the next change in the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations.

Ministry of Health welcomes the planned measure

When exactly the change could come into force is still unclear. The ministry welcomed “a quick, planned implementation of the change in standards,” it simply said. There is also still no official information on the question of possible fines. So far, five euros are due if the first aid kit is missing or incomplete in the car.

The Federal Ministry of Health said that every measure that contributes to infection protection is generally welcomed.
