Contract signed! The Federal Republic has bought the former MV shipyard site in Rostock.
Ships of the German Navy are to be serviced and repaired there in the future. After the insolvency of the MV shipyard association with shipyards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, the federal government prevailed in a bidding process.

The purchase would secure more than 500 jobs and an important strategic location for the maritime industry in the region, said Paula Piechotta (35, Greens), spokeswoman for the Greens’ East regional group in the Bundestag and a member of the budget committee. Secretary of Defense Christina Lambrecht (57, SPD) praised the purchase on Thursday: “Today is a historic day.”
