FC Bayern: That’s what Tuchel, Müller & Dreesen say after Lazio’s bankruptcy

Racism against Upamecano condemned

After FC Bayern Munich’s lost Champions League game, Thomas Tuchel answered “no” when asked whether he was worried about his job as a coach. The 50-year-old did not want to discuss any further questions about his situation at the Stadio Olimpico after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 at Lazio on Wednesday evening. “I would like to talk about the game,” said Tuchel. It was the second bitter defeat after the 3-0 defeat in the top Bundesliga game against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen four days earlier. Bayern are currently facing their first season without winning the title since 2011/12.

Chronology of Tuchel-Bayern: Eleven months with constant misfires

Sports director Christoph Freund did not move away from the coach on Thursday night. “We are all in the same boat. It’s not easy now, but we will get out of this together, that’s our big goal,” he said in the mixed zone. Friend sees Tuchel every day, how he interacts with the team and trains. “Of course he’s also struggling with the situation because he wants to see the team differently on the pitch,” said the 46-year-old. However, he is convinced that things will get better again.

FC Bayern’s newcomer calls for solidarity – Dreesen’s message, Müller’s announcement

The media would be welcome to have the coaching discussion, said Thomas Müller (34) in the stadium catacombs when asked whether Tuchel was still the right one. “First of all, we players are completely the wrong people to contact,” said Müller and clearly concluded: “And that is also a bit disrespectful. Of course the sporting situation is not good at the moment and everything else that FC Bayern has in mind is completely clear. Nevertheless, we work every day, we players and the coach too, to overturn the goal.”

You shouldn’t expect to tear yourself apart now. “We stand together and work towards the next game,” said Müller with a view to next Sunday’s Bundesliga game in Bochum and remained “consciously self-confident” with regard to the second leg against the Biancocelesti in Munich on March 5th: “It’s half time. Sure, we have problems. Nevertheless, things can happen very quickly in football. We now have three weeks for this fight for the quarter-final ticket in the second leg.” He added combatively: “Lazio did not go for the second goal when they had the majority. And I hope we can punish that.”

Captain Manuel Neuer invoked internal cohesion: “We have to put our finger on the wound and still stay close together,” said the 37-year-old. “We have to look each other in the eyes and help each other on the pitch,” warned Neuer: “It’s no use falling apart now. We are our own harshest critics. A lot of things are just very difficult at the moment. We need success experiences, we need moments of success. It’s all about victories, about goals, about the security you get.”

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said in his banquet speech: “The Romans took our edge in the second half. There’s nothing to sugarcoat, we imagined things differently.” In the team hotel in Rome, he looked ahead to the second leg and recalled the attitude of the former Bayern bosses. “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß always said when they lost 1-0 away: ‘That’s a result you can live with. You can still win this at home.’ That is the message we must take with us. Our team has the quality,” said the Bayern boss in front of the players, coach Tuchel and the invited guests.

FC Bayern condemns racist comments against Upamecano

Meanwhile, FC Bayern has strongly condemned racist comments against defender Dayot Upamecano (25) on social media. These were “absolutely despicable,” the club wrote late on Wednesday evening after the 0-1 loss in the first leg of the round of 16 at X. “Anyone who makes comments like that is not a fan of our club. We have your back, Upa!”

The 25-year-old Upamecano caused the penalty kick in the game that led to the only goal of the game by ex-Dortmunder Ciro Immobile (33). Upamecano also saw a red card for getting in the penalty area against Lazio attacker Gustav. The footballer was then massively insulted on his Instagram profile.
