FC Barcelona: Xavi turned down another offer for Barca coaching chair
Xavi is the new head coach of FC Barcelona, it was official for a few days. But the Spaniard would have had another offer.
The new head coach of FC Barcelona, Xavi (41), has before his Engagement with the top Spanish club turned down another offer.
As he himself leaked on his performance at Blaugrana, the 41-year-old could have signed with the Brazilian association. There it was planned that he would initially support national coach Tite as assistant coach, and then take over as chief instructor after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
FC Barcelona: Xavi’s dream was Barca
“My only dream was to come to Barca,” said the former midfielder about the offer, which he turned down relatively quickly. “I feel prepared, I have a lot of self-confidence. I think now is just the time.”
Xavi takes over his former club in a far from easy situation, because the Catalans are currently only ninth in the LaLiga table and are a whopping ten points away from arch-rivals Real Madrid.
FC Barcelona: Xavi demands good results
“It’s about performance, norms, working to the limit and convincing the players of success. We will be measured by results and we will try to play well and deliver results,” said Xavi.
He himself played for FC Barcelona for 17 years and won the Champions League four times between 1998 and 2015.
