FC Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo requires lengthy treatment after a collision. An ambulance eventually takes him to the hospital.

Moment of shock for Ronald Araujo and all fans of FC Barcelona in the league game against Celta Vigo: The Catalan defender collapsed after a head collision with team-mate Gavi, presumably unconscious, and then had to be taken away by ambulance. But the Uruguayan was lucky in his misfortune. As Barca announced, the 23-year-old “only” suffered a concussion. According to the TV pictures, an even worse injury could be suspected.

What happened? After a tee shot by Celta goalkeeper Matias Dituro in the 60th minute, Araujo and Gavi climbed up almost parallel to each other just behind the halfway line to clear the ball and crashed their heads.

While Gavi was immediately down, Araujo ran a few meters towards his own goal before collapsing. The 23-year-old was immediately surrounded by his teammates. They quickly summoned medical staff.

Araujo required treatment on the field for minutes and was eventually taken away in an ambulance that drove onto the field.

FC Barcelona gave the all-clear after around 25 minutes: “Ronald Araujo suffered a concussion and was taken to a hospital for further tests,” the Catalans wrote on Twitter. The game ended in a 3-1 win for coach Xavi’s team.
