The FBI is investigating New York Mayor Adams’ entourage on suspicion of corruption. Adams had to hand over several of his electronic devices to the authorities. According to his lawyer, he is not accused of any wrongdoing.

FBI agents have confiscated cell phones and other electronic devices belonging to New York Mayor Eric Adams. This measure came as part of an investigation into suspected corruption in Adams’ 2021 election campaign. The New York Times reported that Adams was said to have worked with the Turkish government on the campaign.

The newspaper said agents got into his car on Monday and took the mayor’s electronic devices, including two cell phones and an iPad, the newspaper reported, citing sources familiar with the case. The devices were returned to Adams a few days later.

Adams is cooperating with investigators

Adams’ lawyer Boyd Johnson told AFP: “On Monday evening, the FBI spoke to the mayor after an event. The mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and handed over the electronic devices.” Adams has not been accused of any wrongdoing and is cooperating with investigators, the attorney added.

Adams, a Democrat, did not comment publicly on the seizures when he met reporters Wednesday. His lawyer said that after the FBI investigation became known, it was determined that one person had behaved inappropriately. “In the spirit of transparency and collaboration, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators,” he said, without providing details. The responsible public prosecutor’s office declined to comment.

Search at Campaign worker by Adams

“As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all of my employees to obey the law and cooperate fully in any investigation – and that is exactly what I will continue to do. I have nothing to hide,” former police officer Adams shared with.

The campaign investigation became public last week when FBI agents searched the home of Adams’ former fundraiser Brianna Suggs and took laptops, cell phones and a folder marked “Eric Adams.” According to the New York Times, the house search was looking for evidence of a conspiracy between the mayor and Turkey. After the seizure, Adams canceled a trip to Washington to meet White House officials.
