Fawn rescue: How a club from Neufahrn wants to save the baby animals – Bavaria

Because the animal babies have no instinct to flee in the first few weeks of life, many of them die from mowers. The new association “We save fawns” from Neufahrn wants to track them down in future with drones and thermal imaging cameras.

For Martina Zander, the best moment is when she finally finds the fawn and puts it in the basket – knowing full well that it would not have survived the day without help. Then she carries it to a safe and shady place away from the meadow, where it will be released again after mowing. The mum quickly finds the fawn again by calling and looks for a new hiding place. “The fawn is saved for the day,” says Martina Zander. But the animal is only out of danger weeks later, when it has become stronger and can run faster. And when the mowing is over.
