A father threatened his family on Boxing Day in Upper Franconia – one of his children called the police. The 45-year-old threatened his wife late in the evening with killing her, then setting fire to the house and then killing himself, the police said on Monday. The woman barricaded herself with her 15-year-old daughter and her twelve-year-old son in an upstairs room. One of the children alerted the police. The officers surrounded the house in Marktredwitz (district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge), but were unable to establish contact with the man. The 45-year-old was arrested when he went outside to smoke. He was taken to a district hospital. The police could not say which of the two children called the police.
