Civil lawsuit filed by family members against Alec Baldwin

Law enforcement is already investigating actor Alec Baldwin. Now the relatives of the camerawoman he shot have also filed a lawsuit.
The US actor Alec Baldwin (64) is facing another lawsuit after the fatal shot at a camerawoman during a Western film shoot. The parents and sister of slain camerawoman Halyna Hutchins will pursue a civil lawsuit against Baldwin and others involved in the “Rust” shoot, attorney Gloria Allred said Thursday in Los Angeles.
The family accuses the “Rust” production, among other things, of violating numerous security measures, quoted “TMZ.com” from the indictment. The plaintiffs sought damages in an undisclosed amount.
Criminal proceedings are already underway against Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. Prosecutors in the US state of New Mexico filed a manslaughter lawsuit against both of them in January. If found guilty with aggravating circumstances, they face up to five years in prison.
Cinematographer Hutchins was fatally injured while filming the western “Rust” at a Santa Fe film ranch in October 2021. Baldwin, who served as lead actor and producer on the film, was holding a gun in rehearsal for a scene when a shot went off. Director Joel Souza was hit in the shoulder by the projectile and injured in the incident. Investigations revealed that the Colt had a real bullet lodged in it. Baldwin had always denied responsibility for the fatal accident.
Hutchins also survived a husband and a son. Widower Matthew Hutchins filed a civil suit against Baldwin and other contributors in February 2022. In October, however, Hutchins announced that it had settled out of court and settled the lawsuit.
