Fatal knife attack in Würzburg: Unanswered questions and a 22-year-old in custody – Bavaria

In the case of the 28-year-old who died in a knife attack on Sunday morning in Würzburg, the police remain tight-lipped about official information about the possible background to the crime. In the attack near a discotheque in the early hours of the morning, one man was killed and two other men were seriously injured. A 22-year-old was arrested on Sunday and is being held in custody on suspicion of manslaughter.

The spokesman for the Lower Franconia Police Headquarters, Philipp Hümmer, contradicted the impression that some had in the public eye that the crime had already been reconstructed beyond any doubt. Although the alleged instrument of the crime was secured, potential witnesses were still being questioned.

As already confirmed on Sunday, the police are investigating the initial suspicion that the 28-year-old wanted to rush to help a woman. According to information, the 22-year-old alleged perpetrator is said to have harassed a woman and possibly even used violence on her. However, based on the current status of the investigation, “a mutual dispute” cannot be ruled out for the time being. Police Commissioner Hümmer also put the fact that the alleged perpetrator had turned himself in to the police into perspective. In fact, the 22-year-old asked to call the police at a clinic near the crime scene because he had been involved in a physical altercation. The night-time violence at the Stift Haug parish church caused great consternation in Würzburg.
