Fashion chain Hallhuber slides into bankruptcy again – economy

The Hallhuber fashion chain has gotten into trouble again and is now to realign itself in self-administered insolvency proceedings. The background to this is “multiple crises in the textile retail trade, which are well known in the market, and (the) resulting massive losses in sales,” the company said. Hallhuber decided to take this step in order to be able to continue the search for a new financial investor. Investors Rouven Angermann and Torsten Eisenkolb only bought the textile retailer out of bankruptcy in 2021.

The previous management continues to run the company and is monitored by the court-appointed administrator Christian Gerloff. In addition, the restructuring experts Sven Tischendorf and Alexander Höpfner come on board as managing directors. Hallhuber has around 1100 employees and 113 branches. The fashion industry was hit by the changed shopping habits in the Corona pandemic, now it is being hit by high inflation and consumer restraint. Numerous retail chains such as Galeria Karstadt and Peek & Cloppenburg (P&C) had filed for bankruptcy themselves in order to be able to restructure.
