30 years ago, Hermanns made the US concept of stand-up comedy socially acceptable in this country with the first “Quatsch Comedy Club” in Hamburg. Now he wants to hand over the helm to younger comedians.

Farewell evening with dance and latex one-piece suit: Entertainer Thomas Hermanns moderated the “Quatsch Comedy Club” for the last time in 30 years. “Thank you very much, it was a crazy evening for me,” said the 59-year-old presenter, visibly touched, at the end of the recording of his farewell show “Bye Bye Thomas” in Berlin. “Quatsch is passion, make it happen,” he sang at the end of a big show, showing his passion for the Quatsch Comedy Club.

Comedians like Chris Tall, Atze Schröder, Tahnee and Oliver Pocher were guests. They each moderated a part of the more than three-hour show in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. Pocher competed on stage against Hermanns in a duel for the better imitation of American pop singer Britney Spears (“Oops! I Did It Again”).

The 44-year-old Pocher danced belly-free in a schoolgirl costume to well-known songs by the singer, while Hermanns performed in a red latex one-piece suit and blonde wig. Comedian Chris Tall thanked Hermanns with the words: “What you do is unique and at best it’s a little harder to copy.”

The long-time moderator opened the first “Quatsch Comedy Club” in Hamburg 30 years ago and thus made the US concept of stand-up comedy socially acceptable in this country. Many well-known comedians had their first appearances in the shows, which were later also broadcast on television, including Carolin Kebekus, Dieter Nuhr and Ilka Bessin.

It’s time to hand over the helm to younger people, said Hermanns. Nevertheless, he wants to remain active behind the scenes of the format in the future.

ProSieben will broadcast the anniversary show two days before New Year’s Eve on December 29th.
