Family: What parental allowance does – politics

Financial aid has changed the division of labor between women and men, a study shows. Especially when fathers temporarily take care of the household and children alone.

Before Germany introduced parental allowance at the beginning of 2007, said the American author and demographer Phillip Longman in one Mirror-Interview, he “laughed a lot” about this initiative. A similar model was tried in Sweden. The Swedish men, however, took advantage of the months off and went hunting, “hunting moose.” The parental allowance is meant to be nice, but “it doesn’t help,” said Longman. After more than 15 years, one can say: Things have turned out differently and this is not just due to the lack of moose in the Federal Republic.
