The group announced that it had restored all of its services a little after 6 p.m.

On this Tuesday afternoon, Instagram and Facebook users could no longer enjoy their social networks. On Facebook, it was impossible to log in. On Instagram, various Internet users had reported the impossibility of refreshing their news feed or consulting their notifications. Only WhatsApp was able to work.

This outage lasted a handful of hours, before the Meta group announced the restoration of its applications. “Earlier today, a technical issue made it difficult to access some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone affected and apologize for any inconvenience.”published on X (ex-Twitter) Andy Stone, the group’s spokesperson.

The last major outage of services associated with Facebook, in May 2023, lasted an hour.

On the Downdetector site, where Internet users can report online service outages, the Facebook, Messenger and Instagram applications were at the top of the ranking Tuesday afternoon. More than 300,000 reports were received for Facebook, on the American version, in less than 30 minutes.

Musk in ambush

Many Internet users have wondered about a potential hacking of their Facebook account. Some claim to have been disconnected and not to have been able to receive a code by email to authenticate.

On X, reactions poured in under #InstagramDown. The boss of X, Elon Musk, took the opportunity to make fun of his main competitor. In a message, he attacks Meta’s services: “If you are reading this message, it is because our servers are working”.

X’s director of advertising and partnerships, Linda Yaccarino, also commented on the situation: “Tests, tests… affirmative, everything works well here”.
