Fabio Quartararo finds his way to the podium in Austin, Francesco Bagnaia falls again

After two difficult first Grand Prix, Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) signed his first podium of the season in Moto GP on Sunday in the United States. On the demanding track in Austin (United States), the French vice-world champion finished 3rd, behind the Spaniard Alex Rins and the Italian Luca Marini.

“It feels good to finish on the podium, reacted the Frenchman to the microphone of Canal. Fighting with Luca Marini at the start of the race was important not to lose position. Then, I managed to find my rhythm even if we always lost time in the same places. I was able to escape the group behind me a bit and get the job done. I feel the potential is coming. Afterwards, I made no mistakes and I finished third having had two crashes in front of me (Miller and Bagnaia)… I’m happy but we know very well that we’ll have to find something to try to fight for the podium on a regular basis. »

The big loser is Francesco Bagnaia, who started from pole position and was on his way to victory before crashing and retiring halfway through the race. “I don’t understand, I’m very disappointed because it wasn’t my fault,” said the reigning world champion at the exit. It’s a blow for the man nicknamed “Pecco” and who was hoping so much to redeem himself from his blunder two weeks ago in Argentina, when he had already fallen when a place on the podium was promised to him.
