The outgoing national secretary of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, was re-elected Monday at the head of the Communist Party meeting in congress in Marseille with more than 80% of the votes. Emphasizing the “honor” given to him, Fabien Roussel said in the preamble to his speech “aspiring to be worthy of the trust” brought by the activists.
The list drawn by the deputy from the North for the National Council won 80.4% of the votes after a vote on Monday. Fabien Roussel, 53, has led the PCF since November 2018 and his re-election was announced without any real suspense since the orientation text he submitted had already won 82% of the votes in January, leaving little chance for the competing motion carried by the deputy of Seine-Saint-Denis Stéphane Peu.
“To fully play its role”
“It is the pride of the PCF to fully play its role in this period. It is also our responsibility to work for a political outlet”, launched the deputy during the congress.
Unfortunate candidate for the presidential election in 2022 also assured “to be always in campaign”. After raising his voice against LFI, assuming his statements on an “outdated” Nupes, he affirmed that his party must expand towards the center left. “Mind your own business,” he told LFI, who called on the Communists to “clarify” their position after their leader’s statements.
