Fabien Roussel was officially invested as a PCF candidate for the 2022 presidential election by more than 82% of Communist members, the party announced on Sunday.

More than 30,000 of the approximately 43,000 members up to date with their membership fees voted, including 72.42% in favor of a PCF presidential candidate, 82.36% choosing Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the party, to carry this candidacy.

Candidate “because the situation demands it”

This Sunday, the boss of the PCF presented himself to the TF1 news at 1 pm as the candidate for young people and the “world of work”. “I am a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic because the situation demands it, because France is rich in the work of all our compatriots, all those who, in the public and in the private sector, give a lot and are not recognized, despised, and precarious, ”defended the Communist deputy from the North.

“They demand more from their country and that is why I want to build a pact with them for respect, for equality, for justice. I wish to be the candidate of the world of work and, as a priority, to be able to make youth a great national cause to build, to write with the youth the measures they urgently expect, but also for the future ”, a- he continued.

Fifteen years after that of Marie-George Buffet, the candidacy of Fabien Roussel is the sign of a desire for affirmation and resistance to decline on the part of this historic left wing formation which had supported the candidacies of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in 2012 then 2017.

The national secretary of the PCF, chosen by the Communists in 2018 on the promise that they would have a candidate for the next presidential election, had been invested on April 11 by the national conference of the party.
