In addition to disparaging quotes, the perpetrator tried to throw a burning object at the memorial in Tiergarten. The state security police are investigating.

The memorial to the homosexuals persecuted under National Socialism in Berlin has been attacked by an unknown person. The crime had already been committed on Saturday in the early hours of the morning, said a spokesman for the police situation center in the evening on request.

The police state protection took over the investigation. The lesbian and gay association Berlin-Brandenburg had previously reported an arson attack on the monument.

According to police information, the perpetrator attached two slips of paper with a modified quotation from the Bible denigrating homosexuals to the memorial near the corner of Ebert-/Hannah-Arendt-Straße. In addition, the perpetrator tried to throw a burning object at the monument, but he did not succeed.

Also with a view to an attack on a book box near the Holocaust memorial “Gleis 17” on Saturday, the lesbian and gay association said: “We are shocked by the inflammatory energy of both acts and hope that the person responsible in both cases will be caught quickly becomes.” It is unclear whether these acts are related, the police said.
