Investigation initiated after Islamist arrest

Did an Islamist from Duisburg, known to the police, plan an attack against a pro-Israel demonstration? His apartment was searched yesterday. He was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
This is about the “suspicion of being prepared to commit a crime,” said a spokesman for the German Press Agency. He initially did not want to provide any further information. The man was temporarily arrested and the allegations were being investigated.
The spokesman explained that ultimately it was a suspicion of “conspiracy to commit a crime”. However, there is no evidence that this appointment was made with a person who was in Germany, the spokesman emphasized.
Special forces took the man into custody in his apartment on Tuesday. According to the Essen police, there had previously been “indications of a possible attack scenario”.
According to information from the German Press Agency, the man is said to have found out how to drive a truck into a meeting. According to the “Bild” newspaper and “Spiegel”, the possible attack plans were directed against a pro-Israel demonstration. According to dpa information, there were no indications of an imminent attack. The joint federal and state counterterrorism center was also involved in the police operation.
According to police, the searches in the apartment were completed on Wednesday night. “We are continuing to investigate at full speed,” said the spokesman. Police initially did not provide any information about the man’s age.
