According to an analysis by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), almost every tenth ATM in Bavaria is particularly at risk of being blown up by criminals. “We have various parameters according to which we classify the machines,” explained a spokesman in Munich. “One thing is absolutely clear: the physical location of the machine. If a machine is very close to freeways or major federal highways, so that the perpetrators can get away very quickly, it is of course very much at risk.”
But the type of security systems or the spatial conditions on site also played an important role, the spokesman added. So far, the banks and savings banks have reported more than 6,500 locations in the Free State to the LKA, almost every tenth – i.e. around 650 – have been classified as particularly at risk. Targeted preventive measures are now being developed for them.
