The Union wants to sound out on Tuesday with the Greens, announced CDU General Secretary Ziemiak. He also confirmed the appointment with the FDP on Sunday. The Union sends a team of ten.

According to CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak, the Union wants to talk to the FDP on Sunday and the Greens on Tuesday about a possible government alliance. The meeting with the FDP was on Sunday evening from 6.30 p.m., the one with the Greens on Tuesday morning, said Ziemiak in Berlin. The Greens confirmed the date mentioned by Ziemiak.

The party leaders of the CDU and CSU, Armin Laschet and Markus Söder, had each made an offer to the FDP and the Greens, said Ziemiak. FDP and Greens would have accepted.

Tagesschau live: Secretary General Ziemiak on the deliberations of the CDU Presidium

Not all agreed

Not all members of the CDU presidium have therefore fully agreed to the talks between the Union and the FDP and the Greens in parallel with the SPD’s explorations. “There were other voices who said: No, we think the others should talk to each other first,” said Ziemiak. But there was a large majority in favor. Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has expressed “a slightly different point of view”. According to information from the dpa news agency, Kretschmer was the only one who spoke negatively at the meeting.

The CDU wants to go into explorations with the FDP and the Greens with a team of ten, according to Ziemiak. These included party leader Laschet, himself, parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus, the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier, his Saxon-Anhaltinian colleague Reiner Haseloff, the Schleswig-Holstein government leader Daniel Günther, the Baden-Württemberg interior minister Thomas Strobl, the party appeals Julia Klöckner and Sylvia Breher as well Health Minister Jens Spahn.

For the CSU, party leader Markus Söder, regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt, general secretary Markus Blume, parliamentary managing director Stefan Müller and digital state minister Dorothee Bär should take part.

The Union believes that it makes sense to talk about whether there is a possibility of forging a “future alliance” that reflects the breadth of society and builds bridges. It could be a coalition for sustainability, in any dimension, said Ziemiak.

Mathematically, the Union could form a Jamaica coalition with the Greens and the FDP.
