Exit from combustion engines – DUH sued carmaker – Economy

The German Environmental Aid (DUH) wants to force the car companies BMW and Mercedes-Benz to phase out combustion by 2030 with a lawsuit. The association has filed climate action against German companies for the first time, said the DUH. The complaints were therefore submitted to the competent regional courts in Munich and Stuttgart. The association demands from BMW and Mercedes-Benz “the climate-friendly conversion of their companies, in particular by drastically reducing the CO₂ emissions of their vehicles in accordance with the binding regulations of the Paris Climate Protection Agreement and the German Climate Protection Act”. The DUH had previously demanded a declaration of cease and desist from the car manufacturers by Monday and threatened with a lawsuit. BMW initially referred to a reply that had already been sent to DUH, in which the alleged environmental aid claim was rejected.
