Eurozone – Producer prices rise sharply – Economy

Producer prices in the euro zone are rising at record speed. The prices that manufacturers receive for their goods rose by 36.8 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the statistics office Eurostat. This is the highest rate since the introduction of the euro. Producer prices had already risen sharply in the previous months. Energy prices rose particularly sharply by around 104 percent. Prices for intermediate goods rose by 22.6 percent. Producer prices measure producer-level price pressure by capturing producers’ selling prices. The development usually has a partial and delayed impact on consumer prices, on which the European Central Bank bases its monetary policy.
