Back to Sweden from Hollywood: Stockholm-born actress Malin Akerman moderates the ESC.

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will take place again in May. In Malmö, Sweden, a Hollywood actress will also welcome the spectators to the major event. In addition to the Swedish presenter and comedian Petra Mede (53), Malin Åkerman (45) leads through the two semi-finals and the final. That was, among other things communicated via the ESC’s Instagram account.

“Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede will host the 68th Eurovision Song Contest when it takes place in Malmö in May,” it says alongside a picture of the two. Åkerman, who was born in Stockholm, is known, among other things, from the series “Billions” and the Hollywood action “Rampage – Big meets Bigger”. With Mede she has an ESC veteran at her side. The 53-year-old previously hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and 2016.

Mede feels honored, Åkerman is nervous

“I can’t really describe my feelings about it,” says Åkerman quoted by “eurovision.tv”.. “I’m very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way.” The actress has always loved the music event and hosting it with Mede was a dream come true. The presenter is “one of the funniest women I have ever met”.

Mede is also looking forward to the shows with Åkerman. “After first presenting alone and then with the wonderful Måns Zelmerlöw at my side, I’m now really looking forward to working with Malin,” says the presenter. Although she doesn’t know the actress from before, the two have met several times: “It will be a pleasure to work with her!” Mede describes the fact that she is allowed to moderate the ESC again as an “incredible honor”.

It is not yet clear who will run for Germany

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the public television company SVT announced in July 2023 that the ESC would take place in Malmö. The Eurovision Song Contest final will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The two semi-finals will take place in the same week, on May 7th and May 9th.

As is well known, the ESC 2023 last May was unfavorable for Germany. Unfortunately, the band Lord of the Lost could only take last place in Liverpool behind Great Britain and Serbia. Who will compete for Germany this year will be decided in the preliminary round “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024” on February 16th.
