Europol Seizes $46 Million From Crypto Transaction Coverage Provider ChipMixer

Europol seized $46 million from Crypto transaction concealment provider ChipMixer. Authorities also accuse ChipMixer of laundering 152,000 BTC ($2.88 billion) over the past five years.

The ChipMixer website was also shut down after authorities seized four of its servers, with Europol claiming the app had laundered €2.73 billion since its inception in 2017.

“ChipMixer, an unlicensed provider of crypto transaction masking. It was established in mid-2017, specializing in mixing or cutting routes related to digital assets. This makes it of interest to cybercriminals who want to launder illegal money from criminal activities.”

“Ransomware such as Zeppelin, SunCrypt, Mamba, Dharma or Lockbit have used the services of ChipMixer to launder the ransom money they received. Authorities are investigating the possibility that some of the crypto assets stolen following the massive crypto exchange bankruptcy in 2022 may be laundered through ChipMixer.”
