European Football Championship: Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb on the future of football

The European Championship can be a turning point for women’s football – if we don’t let the euphoria fizzle out and create more opportunities. Ex-Bundesliga referee Bibiana Steinhaus writes in the star.

Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb

I’ve been working and living in England for a season. Before the final I was in a shopping mall and of course there was a lot of enthusiasm for football. There were people walking around in England shirts, mostly youngsters, and I was like, ah, they’re doing that to support the women, but I’m sure there’s the names of the male stars on the back, like Harry Kane or Raheem Sterling. Then I looked closer and saw – it was the names of Beth Mead or Chloe Kelly.
