Not a good game, but a perfect result: Eintracht Frankfurt also wins in Greece and winters in the Europa League.
Eintracht Frankfurt has secured advance in the Europa League: The Hessians won 2-1 (1-1) in Piraeus on Thursday evening. Youssef El-Arabi scored for the Greeks (12th minute), Daichi Kamada was able to equalize for the Frankfurt team (17th). Jens Petter Hauge scored the celebrated winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

With five changes, coach Oliver Glasner threw his starting XI upside down. Martin Hinteregger, who had recently looked tired, found himself on the bench, Filip Kostic was injured and Erik Durm also had to call out sick at short notice.
The Greeks, who suffered their first defeat of the season in the first leg, got off to a strong start and quickly took the lead: In the 12th minute, Henry Onyekuru Tuta sprinted to the outside, and El-Arabi could use his cross to make it 1-0. But the Hessians struck back with the first real chance: Rafael Borré sent Kamada with a through pass, the Japanese stayed cool and pushed into the far corner to make it 1-1 (17th).
Tough game without major highlights
As a result, Piraeus was more powerful and the renewed leadership several times close, with Eintracht there was a lack of creativity in the offensive game. After a strong combination of the hosts, Giorgos Masouras appeared free in the penalty area, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp extended his long leg and prevented the goal (36th). In the 39th minute, the goalkeeper was again strong against a shot by Mady Camara. At halftime, it was a draw that was flattering for Eintracht.
But even in the second round, the game was initially tough and too uncreative, especially on the Eintracht side. In the 56th minute, Frankfurt were lucky when Onyekuru slipped away from Tuta’s back, but narrowly missed the goal with his finish. Glasner then reacted and brought Jesper Lindström and Almamy Touré for Aymen Barkok and the once again ineffective Sam Lammers.
Glasner bursts the collar – redemption through Hauge
When things still didn’t get better, the Eintracht coach briefly broke the collar: Glasner hit a ball that got into his side in a rage and received a yellow card for it. But that wasn’t a wake-up call for his team either. In the 69th minute, Lindström had another finish for the Frankfurt team, but his long-range shot was not placed enough.
However, Piraeus also continued to decline, so that most of the second half was played in midfield – great opportunities in short supply. When everything pointed to a draw, Eintracht struck ice cold: Lindström brought the ball to Hauge, who chased it into the net – 2: 1 and the great jubilation about the early progress. Because at least second place is no longer to be taken from Hessen in the Europa League group D.
