Eurocorps: Poland recalls Eurocorps commander with immediate effect

Poland has recalled Eurocorps commander Jarosław Gromadziński due to investigations. According to the Ministry of Defense in Warsaw, a “control investigation” was launched “according to new information about the officer.” The general’s access to secret information is being investigated. He should return to Poland with immediate effect.

Jarosław Gromadziński took over the leadership of the Eurocorps in June last year. He is also a lieutenant general in the Polish Armed Forces. Poland announced that it would immediately fill the Eurocorps position.

The Eurocorps was founded in 1992 on the initiative of Germany and France. It is a rapid deployment force available to NATO and the EU. The main task is the management and coordination of large international military operations. The Eurocorps can lead up to 60,000 soldiers; the headquarters in Strasbourg consists of a staff with support units with around a thousand employees.

The troops come from numerous European countries. The “framework nations” are Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg and, since 2022, Poland. Greece, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Austria are involved as so-called associated nations.
