Euro Espoirs: Italy is scared, but wins against Switzerland – Euro Espoirs – Gr.D – Switzerland-Italy (2-3)

Switzerland 2-3 Italy

Goals: Imeri (47e) and Amdouni (52e) for Switzerland // Pirola (6e), Gnonto (11e) and Parisi (45e+4) for Italy

The harder the battle, the better the victory.

After returning to the locker room with a three-pawn lead, Italy saw Switzerland return to this encounter thanks to a superb second half. But in the pain, it is finally the Azzurrini who snatch this (very) precious success.

Four days after the controversial defeat against Les Bleuets, the Italians were forced to win. Conquering from the first minutes, Italy manages to open the scoring through Pirola on a corner from Tonali (0-1, 6e). And faced with a sleeping Nati, the Azzurrini drive the point home: Bellanova overflows in his corridor and deposits a candy for Gnonto who does it twice to push the leather into the back of the net (0-2, 11e). But Switzerland do not admit defeat and get real chances, especially with this shot from Rieder countered by a tackle from Paresi (28e). And this lack of success of the Nati is sanctioned. Parisi takes advantage of the opposing defensive passivity – and particularly of Blum – to widen the gap (0-3, 45e+4). Without being sparkling, but devilishly effective, Italy then inflicts a correction on Switzerland.

But despite this river score, the Helvetians continue to develop an offensive game. And their efforts are immediately rewarded. Taking advantage of a poor clearance from Okoli, Imeri finds the flaw with a clear shot entering the surface (1-3, 47e). Five minutes later, Amdouni has fun in the transalpine defense and reduces the mark (2-3, 52e). The game is completely restarted. Aware that the situation is becoming critical, the Azzurrini start playing ball again. But on a perfectly brought counter-attack, Males finds himself alone against the doorman, but the FC Basel striker completely misses his gesture and, at the same time, the frame (74e). A final opportunity that Switzerland will sorely regret. The score will not move, Italy offered a little scare, but finally won.

A success that allows Nicolato’s men to catch up with their adversary of the day, and to get back into the race for qualification.
