A war is raging in Europe and people are groaning under the energy crisis – and what is the European leadership duo doing? First vacation. What Germany and France are doing is irresponsible.

It’s a disturbing realization that the European Union could go into a tailspin because of the German autumn break. Five German ministers had long since booked vacations, and that, according to the Chancellery, is a major reason why the Franco-German cabinet meeting planned for next week was postponed. The whole thing was announced one day before the EU summit in Brussels, where Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron went with different positions on the key issues of energy and economic policy. Spectacular news: the Franco-German duo is on vacation while war is raging in Europe.
