EU investigates Alibaba on suspicion of pornography – Business

The EU Commission has initiated investigations against the Chinese online retailer Alibaba due to the alleged distribution of pornographic content. In addition, the possible sale of illegal products via the group’s shopping portal, Ali-Express, is being examined, the authority said. The European Union (EU) had previously launched investigations against the short video platform Tiktok and the short message service X, formerly known as Twitter, because of similar allegations. Its basis is the Digital Services Act (DSA), which imposes strict rules on large Internet platforms. Among other things, they are obliged to take greater action against hatred and incitement as well as other illegal content on the Internet. In the event of a violation, penalties of up to six percent of global annual sales can be imposed.
