France relies on Ukrainian nuclear power

Brussels wants to enter into a partnership with the Ukrainian government to import hydrogen. France and eight other European countries are demanding that the nuclear industry also benefit from this. Environmentalists are alarmed.

It will be about further arms deliveries and financial aid – but also about green energy: on Friday in Kyiv top representatives of the EU will meet with the Ukrainian government for the 24th EU-Ukraine summit. Among other things, a “strategic partnership for gases from renewable sources” is to be announced there. Ukraine should therefore supply the EU with green hydrogen in the future. In the agreement, both sides pledge to cooperate on pipeline conversion and laying and regulation. Strong investments in green electricity and hydrogen projects in Ukraine are to flow from the EU. According to the will of the French and eight other European governments, however, the nuclear industry could also benefit.
