ESC: Eden Golan is welcomed with cheers and tears in Israel

The conditions under which Eden Golan Competing in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö was challenging, to say the least. For days, people demonstrated in front of the gates of the arena against their participation. And there were also unpleasant nuances in the hall: parts of the audience acknowledged her performance and the awarding of points to the Israeli singer with boos.

Even among the other artists there were negative reactions – Golan just wanted to sing. Just as the motto of this year’s competition stated: “United by Music”. That’s exactly what the 20-year-old did: Although she had to be escorted to the venue by a huge police presence, she didn’t let it bother her and put on a brilliant performance.

Eden Golan came fifth at the ESC

This was appreciated by the TV viewers: Thanks to the audience voting, the Israeli landed in fifth place with her song “Hurricane”. The reception on her return to Tel Aviv was correspondingly euphoric: When she arrived at Ben Gurion Airport, numerous fans were waiting for her Musician. “It’s a great honor to be here and to have had the opportunity to represent our country, especially in these times,” Golan said after landing.

A video shared on Twitter shows the singer’s arrival in Tel Aviv. Eden Golan holds up the Israeli flag after leaving the plane and is greeted by cheering people on the tarmac. Fans give her flowers, her song “Hurricane” plays, Golan and others sing along.

A second video shows the musician in the airport building, where she is greeted by her parents and her brother Sean. There is now no stopping Golan, the tears are flowing freely – and give a small impression of the pressure that must have been on the young woman.

Then everyone around starts a song: “She is a queen,” they sing.
