Investigators accuse a 22-year-old of trying to set fire to a Jewish church in Ermreuth in Upper Franconia on New Year’s Eve for right-wing extremist motives.

After Arson attack on the synagogue in Ermreuth, Upper Franconia The Attorney General’s Office has filed charges of attempted serious arson against a 22-year-old. He is accused of trying to set fire to the synagogue on New Year’s Eve 2022 for “right-wing extremist and anti-Jewish motivation,” according to a statement by the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecution, which houses the central anti-Semitism commissioner of the Bavarian judiciary, took over the investigation in January.

According to these, the 22-year-old is said to have smashed the glass pane of the synagogue and tried to ignite ground fireworks in order to throw them into the building. In the absence of a successful ignition, however, he had to refrain from the project. There was property damage of 1000 euros. According to the investigators, the 22-year-old was “not insignificantly intoxicated” when he did it. He has not yet appeared with similar acts. The public prosecutor tracked down the 22-year-old with the help of a video recording.
