Erlangen University: Rudolf Wöhrl lettering is removed – Bavaria

Erlangen’s Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) has announced that it will remove the five-meter-long “Rudolf-Wöhrl-Hörsaal” lettering in the hall on Ostliche Stadtmauerstrasse this weekend. A week ago, a report had become known, according to which the fashion house founder had been a supporting member of the NSDAP since 1931 and an SS man in 1933. According to the FAU, the name of the donor on the outside facade was “pasted over and defaced by unknown persons after critical reporting” in the middle of the week. The “lettering of contention” was then removed. A naming agreement for a period of ten years was agreed with the family of the donor in 2009. That period has long since expired. Since no new donor has expressed an interest, the name was initially retained. Until the new name is christened, the hall will once again be called “Hörsaal Östliche Stadtmauerstraße 11”.
