Suspensions of sittings in committee are frequent. The decision to suspend rests with its members and those of the provisional office, for various reasons. Here, it is probably to give the political groups present time to discuss the results of the first rounds and agree on the strategy to adopt for the third.
The deputy of La France insoumise, Eric Coquerel, would be elected with 20 votes if the results are identical to the previous rounds, since only the relative majority of the votes cast is necessary in the third round.
Only the 73 deputies who are members of the Finance Committee vote to elect their president and the 32 deputies of the majority, as has been the practice for several years, do not take part in the ballot so that the position is occupied by a deputy member of an opposition group. Absolutely: if the 11 deputies of the National Rally (RN), the 8 deputies of the Republicans (LR) and the 2 deputies of the group Freedoms, independents, overseas and territories vote for the candidate of the RN, Jean-Philippe Tanguy, the latter will obtain an absolute majority and will be elected chairman of the finance committee. This remains very uncertain, on the one hand because the political cost for LR to support the RN would be significant, on the other hand because the right-wing party is also presenting a candidate, Véronique Louwagie, who should recover part of the ballots in the first round.
