Episode 37: Nutrition Doc: Why fasting is good for us

Dr. Matthias Riedl gives the all-clear and explains why low-fat food is not a solution either

Spring is the most popular time for fasting. However, the nutrition doctor recommends that anyone who wants to try out therapeutic fasting should try it out “in a protected environment”, i.e. under guidance, for example as part of a course. “You learn how to fast properly, you’re supported, you’re motivated, but you’re also watched. Is this even suitable for me? Am I allowed to do this for health reasons, and if there are any problems you will have someone to contact,” says Dr. Matthias Riedl. In this episode he explains the difference to intermittent fasting, explains why humans had to cope with hunger throughout evolutionary history, why food breaks are good for our metabolism and what types of fasting there are. But he also says who this method is not suitable for. The expert also answers the question about the nutritional myth that carbohydrates make you fat.

Finally, there is another healthy recipe for a green smoothie.
