Entertainer Gayle Tufts in the Lustspielhaus – Munich

Maybe it is Gayle Tufts the most famous American living in Germany. Since she finally moved to Berlin in 1992, the woman from Brockton, Massachusetts, has used her experience from her own folk-punk band and as a member of numerous New York theater, performance and dance companies, initially as a background singer with Max Goldt and Foyer des Arts. With her first solo programs (directed by the young Thomas Hermanns, by the way), she brought a new language to German cabaret stages in addition to American entertainment: “Denglish”, the language, “what most Americans speak for the first ten to fifteen years that we live here in Germany.” Long before the wave of ethnic cabaret artists, this was so new and popular that Tufts also got his own radio and television formats (“Germany for Beginners”). After a long Corona break, Tufts is now back with “Back!”, as their new program is called comedy house Munich premiere. The versatile comedienne, who has already been successful in musicals thanks to her singing and dance training, presents new songs and texts, but also celebrates several anniversaries with classics from 60 years of life, 30 years in Germany and 10 years of collaboration with her pianist and stage partner Marian Lux. Oh yes, and as far as the role of the American is concerned: Tufts took on German citizenship in 2017, also in protest at the election of Donald Trump.
