British singer Engelbert is considering a comeback and could become the oldest performer at the Glastonbury Festival to date.

The Glastonbury Festival could set a new age record this year: 87-year-old British singer Engelbert Humperdinck wouldn’t mind becoming the oldest musician to take to the stage at the festival.

With an appearance at the legendary music festival, Engelbert would surpass Burt Bacharach (1982-2023) in terms of years of life: he performed in 2015 at the age of 87 and has since held the record for the oldest Glastonbury performer. Engelbert will be 88 years old in May.

Engelbert revealed his comeback plans to the “Sun”.: “I wouldn’t have a problem playing Glastonbury. I would have to have the right songs for that show though. But my new project could give me that opportunity.” The musician also revealed that the new project is outside his comfort zone: “It takes me in a different direction, which might lead to Glastonbury.” Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 26th to 30th this year. Headliners and line-up have not yet been announced.

Engelbert: Collaboration with the Gorillaz?

The musician already has specific collaboration wishes: To this day he regrets not having worked with the Gorillaz. In 2010, the band around Damon Albarn (55) asked him for their album “Plastic Beach” – but his manager at the time turned him down. “That was a terrible mistake,” Engelbert now made clear. “I would have jumped at the chance if they had spoken to me. Hopefully with this new project I will work with people like that. I want to record with them.”

Engelbert Humperdinck, who named himself after the German composer but is best known in Germany as Engelbert, began his music career in the United States in the mid-1950s. He became known worldwide in 1967 with the song “Release Me”.

Engelbert enjoyed particular success in Germany

In the 80s he enjoyed particular success in Germany. The album “Dreams with Engelbert” reached number one in the German charts, and the two subsequent albums made it into the top 5. He worked with a variety of producers, including Leslie Mandoki (71), Ralph Siegel (78) and Dieter Bohlen (70 ). In 2012 he competed for Great Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest and came second to last. His last album, “The Man I Want to Be,” was released in 2017.
