Against the background of the Russian gas supply stop, the federal government becomes the majority shareholder in Germany’s largest gas importer Uniper. As soon as the agreement is implemented, the federal government will own around 98.5 percent of the shares in Uniper.

The ailing German gas importer Uniper, based in Düsseldorf, is being nationalized. There is an agreement in principle with the federal government, said the Finnish parent company Fortum.

According to this, the federal government is planning to increase Uniper’s capital by eight billion euros. In addition, the federal government intends to acquire all of Fortum’s shares in Uniper at a price of EUR 1.70 per share – this corresponds to around EUR 500 million.

As soon as the capital increase has been completed and Fortum has bought the Uniper shares, the federal government will own around 98.5 percent of the shares in Uniper.
