Emmanuel Macron promises to tighten “unemployment insurance rules”

The unemployed in the sights of the Elysée. Emmanuel Macron has said and repeated that he wants to achieve full employment (5% maximum unemployment) by the end of the five-year term. To achieve this objective, the Head of State intends to continue the reforms. “We are going to open a phase 2 of the acceleration of the attractiveness of innovation in France”, he indicated on Wednesday, at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The president spoke of the consolidation of “our major programs: France 2030 and our attractiveness programs with Business France”. But above all he announced that he would once again reform unemployment insurance.

Tighten unemployment insurance rules

“We will then begin a second phase on the reform of our labor market by tightening the rules of unemployment insurance, by also having much more simplicity in hiring and organization, and by promoting everything we can transfer to the company level in the negotiations,” assured Emmanuel Macron the day after his major press conference. A tightening of conditions for the unemployed which could enrage the unions.

During his press conference on Tuesday evening, the president had already mentioned this idea. “The government will encourage the creation and resumption of employment with, from next spring, Act 2 of the labor market reform launched in 2017.” Two unemployment insurance reforms have already been carried out in 2019 and in 2022.
